The Rainbow Serpent is an Aboriginal Dreamtime Story from the Western Region ofNew South Wales, Australia. Aboriginals believe in two forms of time; two parallel streams of activity. One is the daily objective activity, the other is an infinite spiritual cycle called the “dreamtime”, more real than reality itself. Whatever happens in the dreamtime establishes the values, symbols, and laws of Aboriginal society. It was believed that some people of unusual spiritual powers had contact with the dreamtime. “Dreaming” is also often used to refer to an individual’s or group’s set of beliefs or spirituality. For instance, an Indigenous Australian might say that they have Kangaroo Dreaming, or Shark Dreaming, or Honey Ant Dreaming, or any combination of Dreamings pertinent to their “country”. However, many Indigenous Australians also refer to the creation time as “The Dreaming”. The Dreamtime laid down the patterns of life for the Aboriginal people. “The Dreaming” was the time of creation. Dreaming stories vary throughout Australia, and there are different versions on the same theme. For example, the story of how the birds got their colours is different in New South Wales and in Western Australia. So i’m in the city to get some stuff and I see these “flying saucers” type thing, faces, in the sky… I wondered down to Federation Square and I see Medicare had some company making these faces and releasing them in to the air. Well the advertising clearly worked because it attracted me over for a look, I even got a cookie, full of butter, no wonder it tasted good. For non – au viewers Medicare is a Medical Insurance Company and they use “another reason to smile” as part of their logo/captions marketing. You’ll also see some trams, very nice form of transport when they are not full or you get squashed my someone taking up more than half the seat. you know the bubbles with washing up liquid… i think it is that type of thing.
